Former Trump adviser Jason Miller’s social-media app Gettr has seen more than 1 million new users sign up in the days after podcast superstar Joe Rogan joined, The Post has learned. Gettr, a Twitter alternative that has been attracting conservative social-media users, hit the 1 million mark on Friday morning, less than a week after Rogan made his first post on the site on Sunday, according to company figures exclusively shared with The Post. That brings the site’s total number of users to more than 4 million, according to spokeswoman Ebony Bowden. Rogan still maintains a Twitter account but said he was joining Gettr due to concerns about censorship after Twitter banned Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene on Sunday, claiming she had repeatedly shared vaccine misinformation. Ahead of the ban, Taylor-Greene tweeted that “extremely high amount of covid vaccine deaths are ignored” and called for the Food and Drug Administration to not approve coronavirus vaccines. “Just in case s—t over at Twitter gets even dumber, I’m here now as well. Rejoice!” Rogan wrote in his first Gettr post. The wave of signups included 343,000 on January 3 alone — the site’s biggest one-day number since it launched in July. Gettr did not pay Rogan to join the site, Bowden said. The Rogan bump marks a much-needed victory for Gettr after Miller failed to woo Donald Trump, who instead said in October that he plans to launch his own site called TRUTH Social. Yet TRUTH has so far been off to a rocky start. Trump’s team said a test version would come online in November before a wider release in the first quarter of 2022, but multiple bare-bones test versions of the site have leaked online, leaving hackers and journalists able to scoop up Trump’s own username, as reported by the Daily Dot. TRUTH’s floundering has left Gettr able to make inroads with would-be TRUTH users. Other conservatives including writer Jordan Peterson, political commentator Dave Rubin and New York Post columnists Karol Markowicz and Salena Zito have also joined the site in recent weeks. For conservatives, the site’s main selling point is its looser content moderation policies. Gettr says it allows all points of view about politics and vaccines, including those that fact-checkers at other sites would flag as false. However, the site does not allow overt white supremacy and recently banned white nationalist “Unite the Right” organizer Nick Fuentes. Gettr is also expanding overseas. As of Friday, the company said it had 2.2 million users in the US, followed by 500,000 in Brazil, as well significant user bases in the UK, Germany and France. By comparison, Twitter has about 78 million daily active users in the US and 206 million worldwide. “These numbers are proof that social media users are starting to wake up to the increasingly heavy-handed censorship of Silicon Valley executives and are hungry for alternatives,” Miller told The Post. “We welcome people from all ideologies and backgrounds to express themselves freely on our platform.” Gettr has received funding from Guo Wengui, a businessman who fled China in 2014 and is close with fellow ex-Trump adviser Steve Bannon. It also has other unnamed backers and had raised about $75 million in funding as of September, according to Miller.
